L O Z I O E I L N I P O T E . Scrivere che i l s i g n o r L u i g i a v e v a u n a b o t t e g a d i s a n t i è cosa che d à a l l a p e n n a u n a i n e s p l i c a b i l e i n c e r t e z z a n e l l o s c r i – v e r l o , e p p u r e è p r o p r i o così, i l s i g n o r L u i g i a v e v a v e r a m e n t e u n a b o t t e g a d i s a n t i . D i s a n t i e d i s a n t i n i , le p i c c o l e i m m a g i n i che si d i s p e n s a n o n e l l e chiese d u r a n t e le q u e s t u e o n e i g i o r n i d i s o l e n n i t à , r i p r o d u c e n t i le sacre e venerate persone n e i m o m e n t i d e l l a l o r o v i t a t e r r e n a p i ù g e n e r a l m e n t e n o t i e c a r i a l p o p o l o ; e q u e l l e g r a n d i da a p p e n d e r s i , s u l cassettone o a c a p o d e l l e t t o , d e n t r o u n a b e l l a c o r n i c e e s o t t o v e t r o ; l i b r i r e l i g i o s i e l i b r i c - c i n i , l a d o t t r i n a , i l c a t e c h i s m o , l a sacra b i b b i a , i l V a n g e l o , i l n u o v o t e s t a m e n t o , g l i o g g e t t i n i d i ricordo per l a "cresima e l a p r i m a c o m u n i o n e , le p i l e p e r l ' a c q u a b e n e d e t t a ; r o s a r i , r o s a - rini, m e d a g l i e . . . . e n o n candele, n o n a v e v a v o l u t o m a i tenere le candele, e a c h i si affacciava a d o m a n d a r g l i e n e r i s p o n d e v a secco e seccato: « D a l c e r a i o l o ». L u i n o n era u n c e r a i o l o , s i c a p i v a s ù b i t o , c i teneva a n o n esserlo, c h i l o sa p e r c h é , s i c a p i v a s ù b i t o anche q u e s t o ; e s i c a p i v a i n s i e m e che t e n e v a i n p o c h i s – s i m o c o n t o le candele, che h a n n o p u r e u n a certa i m p o r t a n z a n e l rito, come c o l o r o che le v e n d e v a n o , m a p i ù q u e l l i che p e r er– r o r e g l i e ne d o m a n d a v a n o , r i g e t t a n d o l o r o s u l v i s o l a p a r o l a , se n o n come u n ' i n g i u r i a d i r e t t a m e n t e , come u n a q u a l i f i c a , a l m e n o , da p i g l i a r s i m o l t o s o t t o g a m b a . M a i l s i g n o r L u i g i , vedete, n o n è che tenesse i n p o c o c o n t o i c e r a i o l i , teneva i n p o c o c o n t o i l genere u m a n o a l c o m p l e t o . E r a u n o d i q u e g l i u o m i n i n a t i c o n l a c o n v i n z i o n e f o r m a t a e i r r i d u c i b i l e s o p r a l a p r o p r i a specie che v e d o n o q u a l e u n ' i m – mensa b o l g i a d i s e r p e n t i v e l e n o s i s s i m i sempre a bocca s p a l a n – cata per m o r d e r e : bassezze e b r u t a l i t à , v i o l e n z e e s o p r a f f a z i o n i . i
