(31) Rex and Moore through their study of a « zone of transition » in Sparlçbrook, Birmingham developed a conflict model of « housing classes » relating to the different types and degree of access to housing of different groups. Rex's use of the term « class » in this case is Weberian rather than a Marxist concept. « Max Weber ... relativized Marx's view of the nature of social classes by suggesting that any market situation and not only the labour market led to the emergence of groups with a common market position and common market interests which could be called classes. We need only qualify this slightly to include groups differentially placed with regard to a system of bureaucratic allocation to arrive at a notion of « housing classes » (32). (31) R.J.
